Roadside Inspection Stations Now Open for 2012 Season

It is officially boating season and we are excited to announce that the Roadside Inspection Stations are now open. We have the same 5 stations as last year: Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Spooner, Meyers and Homewood (click here for hours of operation).

All boats with intact wire inspection seals, who want a Tahoe Only sticker, may go directly to the launching facility of their choice to purchase their 2012 Tahoe Only sticker. Boats without the wire inspection seal are required to stop by one of the 5 Roadside Inspection Stations to get an inspection, wire seal and purchase their 2012 Tahoe In & Out sticker or 7 Day Launch Pass for inspections (Current Watercraft Inspection Fees). Tahoe In & Out stickers and 7 Day Launch Passes are only sold at the Roadside Inspection Stations.

Want to save some time and money?? Make sure your boat is Clean, Drained & Dry prior to your inspection, because additional fees apply for hot water decontaminations this year on boats that are not CLEAN, DRAINED & DRY.

Sand Harbor now open on Friday’s

Good News boaters! Beginning on April 6th, the Sand Harbor boat ramp will be open on Friday’s, as well as Saturday’s and Sunday’s from 6am-2pm (weather permitting). Only sealed boats may launch at this facility and through the end of April any boat needing an inspection can visit the Cave Rock or Lake Forest boat ramps during daylight hours, 6am-4pm 7 days a week (weather permitting). All inspections will return to the Roadside Inspection Stations in May 2012, so please plan accordingly. Remember to Clean, Drain & Dry your boat after EVERY use. Happy Spring Boating! ~JB

In the Sacramento area this weekend? Whether you’re a local boater in just passing through town, come by and say hi to Tahoe Boat Inspections staff at the Sacramento Boat Show at the Cal Expo March 9-11. We’ll have some free giveaways and information on Boat Inspections and Aquatic Invasive Species Control & Prevention efforts for the Lake Tahoe Basin.

We’ll also be attending the upcoming Cabela’s outdoor show in Reno March 17th-18th.

2012 Inspection Stickers available now

The 2012 Tahoe Only, Tahoe In & Out and 7-day passes are currently available for purchase at Cave Rock and Lake Forest boat launches. Sand Harbor boat launch is only selling Tahoe Only stickers. In 2012 we are transitioning to a calendar year for our annual inspection stickers, but all 2011 Tahoe Only and Tahoe In & Out stickers will be accepted until APRIL 30, 2012.

Remember to Clean, Drain and Dry your boat every time you change bodies of water. ~JB

The new web site offers instructions on how to properly Clean, Drain, and Dry watercraft and gear after each use, and properly Dispose of any plants or debris away from lakes and streams. Taking these few minutes before and after paddling will help protect Lake Tahoe, your gear, and your freedom to launch at undeveloped sites. Paddlers are encouraged to spread the word to other paddlers about the Clean, Drain and Dry method and to join the Tahoe Keepers stewardship community.

Holiday Closures for Cave Rock, Sand Harbor & Lake Forest launch ramps

The Cave Rock, Sand Harbor and Lake Forest launch ramps will be closed on Sunday Christmas Day (12/25/2011) & Sunday New Years Day (1/1/2012). No inspections or decontaminations will be available on either of these days. Private facilities, such as the Tahoe Keys Marina, Obexer’s, or Ski Beach may be open and should be contacted directly for hours of operation. Please be advised that these private launch ramps/marinas will only launch wire-sealed boats. Please plan accordingly.

Sand Harbor Launch Ramp: New Days & Hours starting 12/1/11

Beginning December 1, 2011, the Sand Harbor launch ramp days and hours of operation will be changing. These changes will be in effect from 12/1/11-3/31/12.

The launch ramp will be open on Saturdays and Sundays only, 6am-2pm (weather permitting).
Only sealed boats that last launched in Lake Tahoe will be permitted to launch during operating hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Any unsealed boats will be required to get an inspection/decontamination at Cave Rock or Lake Forest prior to launching.

Roadside Inspection Stations Closed for the Season

The last day for roadside inspection stations was Friday 9/30/11. Sealed boats should continue to the launch facility of your choice.

Inspections and decontaminations will be available at Cave Rock and Lake Forest during the winter. Inspections only at Sand Harbor.

As of October 1, 2011, Sand Harbor’s boat ramp will be open Thursday through Monday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Cave Rock’s launch hours will be open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. These winter hours will be in effect until April 30, 2012. Lake Forest Boat Launch will be open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
